Most of us might have seen advertisements claiming the alternative therapies; these are easy to find in magazines, internet and even stores. These advertisements are full of claim that these will help your child in getting rid of ADHD.
According to them they say that the alternative treatments for ADHD are even more effective than the medications that are available to treat ADHD.
There is a slight problem with the alternative therapy, this problem seems to be with the doctor’s review that has not been the same whenever they have written or spoken about alternative therapy. According to doctor’s alternative therapy are not as good as the doctored prescribed medicines for ADHD, like methylphenidate.
There are some strict parameters according to which the doctors make their pick so as to what medicine to choose from. Doctors just go through the scientific studies and the scientific reviews about any medicine or alternative therapy that is available. This research lets them decide what to do and expect from a therapy. There are medical journals that doctors read before making any final decision about any medical treatment or therapy.
According to doctors the therapists that provide these alternative therapies do not go according to the set standards and sometimes these medicine results in harming the person. There is no guarantee whatsoever whether these medicines are safer than drugs or not.
What is known about the alternate therapy?
All the alternate ADHD therapies that are available have some bits of scientific evidence in itself, all these evidences claim that parents should be careful of the sidfeffects of these therapies before going for them. Even consulting your child about the ADHD therapies would be a better option to go for.
Here is a brief review of some of the alternative therapies that are available and promoted as alternate drugs:
Vitamin supplements: every child needs vitamin for the proper functioning of the brain; even minerals like zinc are also prescribed. If a child lacks these vitamin or minerals then these can be given to him to get rid of ADHD. There is point that excess of multivitamin can harm liver so they are not the best advisable solutions.
Diet: there is no evidence that whether diet would help a child in improving the headaches and ADHD c0ondition. There is known effect of symptoms of diet that have caused any use to child suffering from ADHD.
Herbs: these are basically known to calm a person. But these products are not regulated so asking your pharmacist ABOUT THE EFFCETIVENESS WOULD BE A BETTER OPTION. Herbs like valerian are known to treat sleep related problems, ginko is known to treat brain related problems but all these some times cause skin rashes or even allergies and even stomach upset, So it advisable to take an expert’s advice on the use of herbs as an alternate therapy.
Antioxidants: they are known as anti ageing remedies. They protect the nerve cell but no dire ct treatment of ADHD has ever been observed through them. There is melatonin that may help in sleep disorders but prolonged use may cause headache, fatigue, irritability and even it can trigger up seizures in some cases.
Homeopathy: there are o studies that have proved that homeopathy has ever been successful in treating ADHD, so it is better to skip homeopathy for ADHD.
Hypnotherapy: this treatment might term as helpful in some cases of ADHD, but it is mostly known to trigger sleep related problems or even tics.
Biofeedback: this is the therapy in which people are supposed to be controlling their own a bodily response, this treatment requires full commitment not only from the patient but also from the family. The experiments done to see its worth in ADHD are still not clear.
There are no evidences to support vision therapy or even sound treatment for treatment of ADHD.
